October 1, 1917

PT, CO’s Parade and Bayonet fighting and special “Platoon advancing” drill in forenoon.  Did Special Platoon advancing drill in afternoon on ranges using ammunition and live rifle bombs.

 

October 2, 1917

Drill as usual in forenoon.  Entrenching area in afternoon.  Putting up barbed wirer

 

October 3, 1917

PT, CO’s Parade and rest as usual.  Went to Boxing match in afternoon

 

October 4, 1917

Wet.  PT in huts and inspection, Bayonet fighting and lecture on aeroplane photographs in mess room in am.  Put on Lewis Gun course in afternoon.

 

October 5, 1917

PT & receiving instruction in Lewis Gun all day

 

October 6, 1917

PT & receiving instruction in Lewis Gun.  Off in afternoon

 

October 7, 1917

Church Parade in forenoon.  Off in afternoon.  Wrote letters.  On Piquet in afternoon in town

 

October 8, 1917

Instruction on Lewis Gun all day, also PT in morning

 

October 9, 1917

Parade, full marching order of all Can troops Seaford, for presentation of medals in forenoon by Gen Turner and march past.  Examinations on Lewis Gun in afternoon.

 

October 10, 1917

Firing on ranges with Lewis Gun in forenoon.  Off parade in afternoon

 

October 11, 1917

Firing and stoppages on Lewis Gun on ranges.  Marched out to D range, had dinner and had Battn skirmishing drill all afternoon.  Marched back.  3½ miles

 

October 12, 1917

Usual drill in forenoon and wet in afternoon so had a lecture and then Bayonet fighting and shooting on miniature range

 

October 13, 1917

Wet.  CO’s parade 9 am, got wet, had no inspection.  Started Bayonet fighting then put on fatigues fixing bombing pits.  Off in afternoon

 

October 14, 1917

Church Parade in forenoon.  Afternoon off

 

October 15, 1917

Parades all day as usual

 

October 16, 1917

PT in the huts.  Wet.  BF, Gas drill, shooting in miniature range & lectures

 

October 17, 1917

Parades all today as usual.  Got off at 2.30 to get haircut.  Spent rest of afternoon on it

 

October 18, 1917

Same as usual

 

October 19, 1917

Same as usual

 

October 20, 1917

On parade in forenoon.  Off in afternoon

 

October 21, 1917

Church Parade in am.  Went to C of E Church.  Off in afternoon

 

October 22, 1917

PT, CO’s parade and ½ hour shooting in miniature range.  Dinner 11 o’clock and spent afternoon marking on ranges

 

October 23, 1917

Same as yesterday only bayonet fighting instead of shooting

 

October 24, 1917

Same as yesterday.  Cousin Herbie came over to see me in evening

 

October 25, 1917

Up on ranges marking in forenoon.  Bayonet fighting and started on entrenching area, began to rain, were dismissed for rest of afternoon

 

October 26, 1917

Same as per usual, drilling all day

 

October 27, 1917

Went for a 6 mile route march, full packs, in forenoon.  Off in afternoon

 

October 28, 1917

Church Parade in forenoon.  Off to see Cousin Herbie in afternoon

 

October 29, 1917

On ranges marking in afternoon.  PT, CO’s inspection and ½ hour bayonet fighting.  Dinner 11 am

 

October 30, 1917

PT in huts & CO’s parade in huts.  Bayonet fighting, Gas & shooting on mini ranges all day.  Wet

 

October 31, 1917

PT & CO’s parade & ½ hour bayonet fighting.  Dinner 11.20 am.  Marking on ranges all afternoon
