Monday, February 1st
  • Physical drill as usual.
  • Route march at 8:30AM.
  • Snowed all day and night.
  • Complemented on smart appearance.
  • More rumours about going to England.
Tuesday, February 2nd
  • Paraded for inspection at 9:00AM.
  • Kit inspection at 10:00AM.
  • Social evening in Barrack room.
Wednesday, February 3rd
  • Physical drill as usual.
  • Snow three feet deep.
  • Had lecture in hall.
  • Musketry inspection at 2:30PM.
  • Saw the Engineers off.
Thursday, February 4th
  • Physical drill as usual.
  • Received a few letters.
  • Examination of N.C.O.’s at Armouries.
  • Squad Drill.
  • Passed through.
Friday, February 5th
  • Physical drill as usual.
  • Examination of N. C. O.‘s at Armouries.
  • Rifle drill.
  • Passed through.
Saturday, February 6th
  • Paraded at 9:00AM at Armouries for Examination.
  • Platoon and Battalion drill.
  • Passed through.
Sunday, February 7th
  • Armouries for Divine Service at 10:00AM.
  • Returned to Barracks and wrote some letters.
  • Went to St. George’s Church at 7:02PM.
Monday, February 8th
  • Physical drill at Armouries at 6:10AM.
  • Last day of Examination on all subjects.
  • Passed through.
Tuesday, February 9th
  • Marched for 12 miles and had dinner in the open.
  • Manoeuvres in open order.
  • Fine weather…cold.
Wednesday, February 10th
  • Inspected by Colonel Hughes in kit and baggage.
  • Route march at 2:30PM.
  • Went to Picture Palace with Q. M. Sergt. Fee.
  • Quite enjoyed the evening.
Thursday, February 11th
  • Day in woods.
  • Had command of Platoon in trenching.
  • Took two rows of trenches from the enemy.
Friday, February 12th
  • Very cold, wet, and dirty.
  • Lecture in Mess Room on Rifles.
  • Formed awkward squad.
  • Went to cinema with Sergt. Major Davidson, Q. M. Sergt. Fee, and Sergt. Marks.
Saturday, February 13th
  • Route march around Town.
  • Saw Engineers off to Halifax.
  • Pictures in evening-very nice.
Sunday, February 14th
  • Church at 11:00AM.
  • St. Paul’s in the evening with Q. M. Sergt. Fee-enjoyed the Service.
Monday, February 15th
  • Physical drill at 6:00AM.
  • March round town at 9:00AM.
  • Concert at Y.M.C.A. at 7:00PM.
  • A few more rumours about going away.
Tuesday, February 16th
  • Lecture and bayonet drill in square.
  • Route march in afternoon.
  • Evening at Pictures.
  • Ice cream later.
  • Q.M. Sergt. Fee paid (Luck).
Wednesday, February 17th
  • March round town at 8:50AM.
  • Paraded at 1:15PM for Presentation of Colours to 22nd Battery attached to us-a fine sight.
Thursday, February 18th
  • Route march to Gananoque, 18 miles south.
  • Stayed the night.
  • Had a fairly good time.
  • Bad weather going.
  • Ate chocolate and smoked all the way.
Friday, February 19th
  • Slept in Church.
  • Returned from Gananoque.
  • Had dinner on road.
  • Songs of Old England.
  • Fine scenary.
  • Went to bed early.
Saturday, February 20th
  • Practiced for sprinting.
  • Reviewed by Brigadier Colonel Denison.
  • Complimented on durability.
Sunday, February 21st
  • Went to Church at 10:00AM.
  • Paraded round town.
  • Went to church with Q M. Sergt. J. Fee.
  • Nice service.
Monday, February 22nd
  • Went to Ottawa and stayed at the Y. M. C. A.
  • Had a most enjoyable time.
  • Presented with Colours by Lady Borden.
  • I took guard over night.
Tuesday, February 23rd
  • Returned from Ottawa.
  • Watched sports-very good.
  • Marched round town.
  • Hockey match with “H”. “G’s” won by 6 to 0.
  • Pictures with Sergt. Marks.
Wednesday, February 24th
  • Paraded round town at 10:00AM.
  • Sports at Armouries at 1:30PM-large attendance.
  • Had an enjoyable time with Sergts. Fee & Marks, and friends.
Thursday, February 25th
  • Paraded at 9:00AM.
  • Inspection at  10:00AM by Brigadier Maj. Stewart.
  • Carnival in afternoon and evening.
Friday, February 26th
  • Physical drill in Platoons.
  • Inspection of bunks by Capt. Scott and Lieut. Black.
  • Route march in afternoon and letters in evening.
Saturday, February 27th
  • Physical drill as usual.
  • Company drill and Platoon.
  • Went to Pictures with Sergts. Maingue & Jealous Opera House.
Sunday, February 28th
  • Paraded for Divine Service at Armouries.
  • Wrote letters in the afternoon.
  • Went to St. Paul’s Church in the evening with Q. M. Sergt. Fee.
